adidas' 2018
UltraBOOST
Lineup
Explores the
Balance of
Performance
and Style
In the three years since its inception, the adidas UltraBOOST has transcended its running heritage and garnered status as a footwear icon for its crossover appeal. With its original intention to be, as stated by the Three Stripes Brand, “the world’s greatest running shoe”, a myriad of testing was performed to design a superior crepe with technical detailing that could enhance and support motion. However, these aforementioned features — coupled with the sleekly designed silhouette — would propel it to become a streetwear staple, as well.
adidas‘ latest lookbook delves into the harmony of the footwear’s performance and style characteristics. Underscoring the dynamic attributes of the brand’s proprietary BOOST technology, users’ distinct movements are ergonomically supported as the sneakers conform and bow with the foot. Traction is leveraged from the inclusion of an outsole sourced from Continental rubber, using stretchweb that naturally flexes with the foot’s splay. Technical aspects do double duty for stylistic purposes — working in tandem with a streamlined profile that seamlessly complements street style looks.

Major design characteristics that exist within the UltraBOOST were redesigned to fit the natural form of a woman’s foot for the UltraBOOST X. Taking a lithe approach to the feminine model, the heel counter — used to efficiently guide foot-strike — is slimmed. With the Primeknit upper still intact, the implementation of a free-floating arch contributes to the sock-like fit while accommodating a mixed range of movement.

For 2018, the UltraBOOST and UltraBOOST X each feature three new color iterations. The hero UB is enveloped in a red knit upper with tonal complements brought to the cage, laces and heel cup, while the women’s iteration contrasts its counterpart with a black knit and tan-hued details. Shades of grey wrap the Uncaged and BOOST X silhouettes, with breaks in the monochromatic style appearing by the way of the blue counter.
